Purchasing Manager - Metal Fabrication/Machinery Mfg Location: Milwaukee, WI
More information about this job: Overview: Responsible for overseeing all activities within the purchasing department including supplier development, RFP/RFQ process, contract negotiations inventory levels and turns, achieve cost reductions targets, effective internal auditing processes, supplier management and knowledge of systems and continuous improvement initiatives. Negotiate and implement innovative solutions that support aggressive improvements in supplier quality, delivery, pricing and lead-times. Deliver aggressive cost reduction goals through negotiation of unit price, rebates, material substitutions and/or process improvements. Responsibilities: RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: • Lead purchasing team in all responsibilities supporting parts supply. • Oversee activities involved with procuring goods and services such as raw materials, components, capital expenditures, and MRO. • Participate and conduct supplier rationalization, reviews and quality audits. • Develop and implement continuous improvement activities within the purchasing department and with the supply base, including 'best practices' methods • Control inventory budget within facility and corporate guidelines. • Develop commodity strategies for use in determining long-term sourcing decisions. • Create and implement negotiation strategies. • Oversee the development and utilization of supply base. • Establishes and directs programs for cost reduction and value analysis • Develops procurement policies, control systems and performance measurement systems • Collaborates with engineering and manufacturing for introduction of new products into manufacturing for proper execution. • Develops and controls departmental budget and its relationship to strategic planning and profitability • Drive operational and systems improvements in materials and logistics activities Assure consistent enforcement of all plant operations with company policies and compliance with all federal, state and local regulations • Support the Company's EEO efforts and take appropriate action to prevent harassment of employees and support a respectful and positive work environment. • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications: EDUCATION/TRAINING Bachelors degree in Business or Engineering EXPERIENCE Minimum of 5 years progressive responsibility working in industrial product materials function in a manufacturing environment and 3 years supervisory experience in a Purchasing/Materials Group SKILLS Experience with MRP and Kanban. Demonstrated cost reduction achievements. Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to lead and work in a team environment. Experience with quality systems, e.g. ISO-9000, QS-9000 and TS16949. Demonstrated leadership experience in leading a department, multi-functional teams and working with internal customers at various levels throughout the organization. Process improvement experience to continually lead the team and other departments in continuous improvement. Solid purchasing or supply chain management background as well as materials management experience. An in-depth understanding of supply chain management as well as knowledge of procurement systems. Excellent time management, problem solving, analytical and personal organization skills. Strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills and relationship building. Strong negotiation skills with ability to seek mutually beneficial agreements. Proven track record working in teams and leading teams with documented results. Light to medium travel required
