Overview:
The Global Application Tooling Division (GATD) of Tyco Electronics is
currently seeking a Supply Based Specialist to join our team. GATD is a
worldwide engineering and manufacturing business unit that designs and
manufactures application equipment, associated tooling, and precision
machined products for all markets.
Two positions are available. One position would be supporting our
outsourcing efforts. The second would be supporting our Development
Engineering.
Our Supply Base Specialists support our tooling business by sourcing
development proto-types for new products. Both positions are located at our
100 AMP Drive facility in Harrisburg, PA.
Responsibilities & Qualifications:
Responsibilities
Positions would be responsible for the following more specific duties:
Developing supplier quality plans for key supply partners and OEM's
associated with GATDs products
Facilitating cross-functional efforts to improve cost, quality and
reliability of custom supplied parts
Directing special projects involving product/process quality improvement
Providing support to new product development teams while identifying and
minimizing potential supply base problems
Determines current and potential suppliers capabilities and matches with
GATDs needs
Supports Global Sourcing in make/buy decisions
Supports engineering in the re-design of existing products
Maintains GATD owned tooling records.
Responsible for quoting and procuring tooling used to produce
castings/forgings; molds and stampings. This includes first article approval
process.
Promotes design for manufacturability within GATD by exploring
alternatives and presenting to design and Ops management
Communicates engineering changes to supply base and ensures compliance
Drives the sourcing of new products
Provides on-going research for better and less costly processes and
suppliers
Effects savings through technological developments and materials
Promotes and contributes to domestic and global cost reduction
opportunities
Liaison for engineering and supply base problem resolution
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
5+ years experience in supply base engineering, manufacturing engineering
and/or quality/reliability engineering
An undergraduate degree in mechanical or industrial engineering;
equivalent experience or other degrees coupled with experience
Experience as a Supply Base Management/Purchasing professional in a medium
to large, international company also considered.
Working knowledge of machine shop practices and the metalworking industry
is essential; In addition, working knowledge of quality engineering
practices/applications as applied to supplier management is helpful, (as is
measurement systems, statistical analysis tools and ISO auditing )
The following are preferred:
Professional membership with activity and participation
Familiarity with milling, turning, grinding, EDM, castings/forgings, MIM,
heat treat, CNC type processes as this is our divisions core competency.
Fluent in a second language is a plus
