Reporting to the Corporate Strategic Sourcing Manager, our NPI Commodity Manager will provide supply chain leadership in the companies quoting operation to assure continued company growth, continuity of supply, and sustained profitability. This position will be responsible for managing RFP’s, obtaining new item quotes, facilitating effective negotiations, final supplier selections and timely communication throughout the organization.

This is a dynamic position requiring broad commodity knowledge and solid experience in domestic and international sourcing, to complete new product introduction activities while interfacing with Engineering, Sales, Purchasing, and Suppliers. This position combines strategic sourcing, supplier development, project management, supplier involvement in design (as necessary), travel to suppliers. This work supplements our strategic commodity management staff that is responsible for $100MIL of annual spend.


Responsibilities:

 Lead pre-RFQ activity with Engineering and Program Management to identify requirements and align candidates with appropriate Quality, Cost, Delivery and Technical capability.
 Facilitate engineering and supplier involvement in design reviews.
 Organize and issue NPI requests for quote to existing and developing suppliers, conduct quote analysis, and coordinate supplier audits with Supplier Quality.
 Procure accurate supplier quotes and provide timely turnaround to internal customers
 Review quote packages and negotiate best Quality, Cost and Lead-times for prototype and production.
 Demonstrate competency in decision-making, flexibility, planning and organizing, self-initiative and interpersonal skills.
 Develop supply base in conjunction with commodity management, engineering and program teams. This development will support NPI and Cost Saving initiatives as identified to improve the Quality, Cost and Delivery of our product.
 Work with Engineering to develop new suppliers with systems that support quick development, low cost, and high Quality.
 Lead Program specific cost down process used to manage core supply base for productivity and savings initiatives.
 Exercise ability to mentor and support NPI Buyer Planners.
 Project planning, NPI gate reviews, and product cost analysis.
 Interface with cross functional product teams.
 Participate in supplier certification, supply base consolidation, supplier continuous improvement, material testing, substitution, and standardization.
 Cost reduction through material productivity and value analysis.
 Up to 20% travel.


Requirements:

• 3-5 years commodity purchasing experience with US and international suppliers, including travel to critical suppliers for new part development, supplier audits or problem solving
• Solid knowledge of manufacturing processes and material specifications
• Experience in project management, TQM-Lean and Six Sigma problem solving
• BS Degree strongly preferred in business or related field. Green Belt, CPM or CPIM a plus.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Able to manage multiple projects
