The Baker Hughes Business Support Services (BHBSS) Strategic Sourcing Team’s mission is to utilize best practices and continuous improvements in identifying, selecting, developing, and supporting long term partnerships with suppliers and customers that will result in increased profitability and shareholder value. The Team follows a structured process to optimize the value of externally purchased materials and services for Baker Hughes through consolidating sourcing activities from all business units, promoting Baker Hughes as a “single” enterprise customer to suppliers, and emphasizing Baker Hughes’ commitment to a new sourcing strategy.

 

The BHBSS Strategic Sourcing Team currently has an opening for a Strategic Sourcing Commodity Manager for production and facilities commodity areas. This position will work in a team environment; will lead Strategic Sourcing Commodity Teams; will facilitate part-time teams of cross-divisional advisory board members; and will be responsible for the development and management of preferred supplier relationships.

The individuals fulfilling this role will report to the Director of Strategic Sourcing. The governing body for the Strategic Sourcing Team is the Baker Hughes Manufacturing Excellence Council. The positions will be located in Houston, TX.

 

Responsibilities

• Providing leadership to Commodity Advisory Boards and Team members in the enterprise-wide management of sourcing and purchases of production related, MRO (maintenance, repair and operating), facilities, and utilities products and services; ensure Baker Hughes sourcing methodology is utilized.

• Management of all Commodity Team projects

• Contract development and management for all Commodity contracts

• Serve as the primary contact with BHI’s suppliers and the Advisory Boards in establishing agreements, including: strategic enterprise wide negotiation of pricing and services which leverage Baker Hughes purchasing power, monitoring contract compliance, capturing benefits associated with those agreements, tracking/resolving high-level issues, and ensuring continuous improvement.

• Related policy development, implementation and future evaluation.

• Responsible for the reevaluation of current agreements and supply and negotiation strategies. This will require that changes in the market place that will reduce costs for BHI, are closely followed and taken advantage of.

• Responsible for the identification and implementation of complementary enabling technologies and continuous monitoring of industry trends, which may benefit sourcing agreements.

• Maintaining thorough knowledge of commodity areas and industry knowledge, including knowledge of supply chain and supplier integration.

• Budgeting and planning for the Commodity Team.

• Other activities as required

• Travel of 10-20% may be required

 

Responsibilities & Duties % of Time

1. Manage the development of supply and negotiation strategies

• RFP development/execution/analysis and review with the Advisory Board

• Contract negotiation, contract development through execution

• Develop communication and roll-out plans

• Implement new contracts, processes and policies 20%

2. Manage BHI and Supplier performance against established contracts and processes

• Tracking technology expenditures across business units

• Tracking Supplier performance against established performance measures

• Raise, manage and resolve issues

3. Manage projects in accordance with implementation plans 15%

4. Facilitate cross divisional sourcing teams (Advisory Boards) which will conduct negotiations and award contracts 15%

5. Monitor external environment to identify industry best practices and potential improvement opportunities. 10%

6. Review performance with Suppliers and End-Users 10%

7. Monitor and report division contract compliance quarterly 5%

8. Capture and report contract benefits quarterly 5%

 

Experience Requirements

Minimum of 8 years of related work experience

At least two year’s experience with Baker Hughes, manager level Project management experience Facilitation experience Customer service experience Additional experience highly preferred:

• Engineering or manufacturing involving any of the following product categories: packaging, fasteners, elastomers, carbide, chemicals

• Management, sales and /or procurement of the following types of products: direct materials, MRO, facilities, and utilities products and services

• Previous experience with sourcing, contract negotiation, drafting and administration

• Supervisory experience
